The Gym at Newtown, My Place Pizza, Pantan Landscaping and Total Tool & Spa all opened the 2005-06 men’s basketball league season at The Gym at Newtown with a pair of wins. Rudy McCarthy canned 65 points in two games to lead My Place while Scott Lavalle added 42 to lead Total Tool & Spa.

Here are all the results –

Scott Lavalle poured in 25 points, 17 of those in the first half, as Total Tool & Spa opened with a 62-53 win over Svanda Painting. Frank Galante added 14 points while Bill McNerney and Kevin Barrett combined for 15. For Svanda, Cody Forte canned 21 points and Brian Meath added 20 more. Jerry Reidy and Dave Waite combined for 13 points.

Rudy McCarthy popped in 35 points – 22 of those in the first half – to lead My Place Pizza to a 73-70 win over Southbury Printing. McCarthy canned seven three-pointers in the scoring assault. Aaron McCarthy added 21 points while Bob Rogers Jr added seven points with a pair of treys. For Southbury, Chris Watson canned 27 points while Jim Anderson added 16 and Steve Platt tossed in 14.

Pantan Landscaping pounded LSG, 79-50, as Mike Fern canned 25 points. Rich Engel added 21, Torrence Lamb tossed in 12 and Rafael Cardoso Jr. chipped in 11 more with the aid of three three-pointers. For LSB, Tim had 20 points while Brian T. canned 16.

Marcus McCullough scored 18 points and Leah Taft added 13 – going 5-for-5 from the free throw line in the second half – as The Gym at Newtown slipped past Newtown Phonebook, 53-51. Ken Wright added 13 points and Jeff Haddad chipped in with seven. For Phonebook, Pat Sullivan poured in 20 points while Dave Samoskevich and Steve Bigham tossed in 13 points apiece.

My Place Pizza clipped Svanda Painting, 60-59, as Rudy McCarthy scorched the basket for 30 points. Bob Rogers Sr. tossed in 12 and Aaron McCarthy added nine more. For Svanda, Cody Forte had 22 points – 17 of those in the second half with the aid of four three-pointers. Brian Meath chipped in 14 points and Matt Mariani added 10.

Four players scored in double figures as Total Tool & Spa defeated D’Amico Painting 64-52. Scott Lavalle tossed in 17 points as Tom Santella and Frank Galante added 15 points apiece and Tom Birch chipped in 10. For D’Amico, Rich Solomon poured in 24 points as Jeff LaFlamme and Steve D’Amico added eight points apiece.

Five different players scored in double figures as The Gym at Newtown out-gunned Southbury Printing, 93-76. Kenny Wright led the way with 22 points as Jeff Haddad (19), Mike Bolton (19), Marcus McCullough (18) and James Perkins (15) joined the scoring frenzy. For Southbury, Steve Platt tossed in 23 points, Mike Kish added 22 and Jay Platt contributed 16.

Pantan Landscaping clobbered Newtown Phonebook, 70-38, as four players scored in double figures. Mike Fern led the way with 22 points as Rafael Cardoso Jr. added 15, John Pantan tossed in 13 and Dave Roodhuyzen contributed 12. For Phonebook, Steve Bigham had 19 points while Dave Nowacki had six more.
