CL&P To Present ‘Winter Energy Bingo’

NEWTOWN — On Wednesday, February 23, at 1 pm, the Connecticut Light & Power Company (CL&P) will present a “Winter Energy Bingo” workshop at the Newtown Senior Center, located on Riverside Road in Newtown.

Energy Bingo is played like conventional Bingo. The interesting twist to this game is that each square contains not only a number but a useful tip related to energy conservation, electric safety, personal safety, home safety and health. For example, in the B15 square is an electric safety tip that states, “Don’t overload extension cords.” N65 contains an energy conservation tip, “Buy energy efficient appliances.” Another square will have a health warning, “Know the symptoms of hypothermia.”

“Energy Bingo is recreational and educational. Participants have fun and receive useful information at the same time,”  said Brenda Penn-Williams, community relations representative for CL&P.

Winners will receive prizes which compliment the various summer energy, safety, and health-related messages.

CL&P also has a “Summer Energy Bingo” workshop that provides energy, safety, health information and prizes that are appropriate for that season.

Besides Energy Bingo, CL&P offers presentations throughout the year on energy conservation and money management. “These workshops are targeted for low-, fixed-income and elderly audiences, and are scheduled through local community-based organizations in our service territory,” said Ms Penn-Williams.
