Ferraris And Biplanes To Be Featured In ‘Wheels & Wings’ Fundraising Event

NEW MILFORD — It all started with a question from Terry McClinch, at  Candlelight Farms Airport, to John Bounanno, Vice President of Black Horse Garage: “Do you think your customers would be interested in seeing the old planes I have up at the hangar?” The immediate answer was Yes, and within a weeks’ time, Mr McClinch and Mr Bounanno had organized a combination vintage car and airplane show in Connecticut’s beautiful Litchfield Hills set for September 22.

The stars of the show, called “Wheels & Wings,” will be Black Horse Garage’s vintage automobiles and Candlelight Farms’ vintage airplanes. Proceeds will go to the New Milford Police Department and Water Witch Hose Company #2. Admission will be $7, with children under 10 free. The show will run from 10 am until 4 pm; show entrants should be on site by 9.

The event will be at Candlelight Farms Airport, 5 Green Pond Road in New Milford.

Mr Bounanno is promising a one-of-a-kind event, and has asked his customers to bring their best and most valuable vehicles, such award-winning Ferraris, Jaguars, muscle cars, and maybe even such rarities as a 1936 Packard, one of only seven in existence.

Mr McClinch won’t be outdone though. “We’re opening our hanger to let folks get up close to some of the most historic planes in the region,” he said, adding that he’s calling in reinforcements from all over the country to bring in wooden biplanes, stunt planes and more.

They’re inviting all vintage car owners to bring their vehicles, as they’ve set aside special areas. Trophies will be awarded for crowd favorites and standout entries.

The show will allow enthusiasts to get close to some rare automobiles and aircraft that are usually only seen in museums and books.

The September 22 event will have something for the whole family, including activities for kids, food, music, and Q&A sessions with top restoration craftsmen. Visitors will also be able to take a ride in a vintage plane. A few other surprises are also in the works.
