A Good Year For United Way
A Good Year For United Way
To the Editor:
United Way of Western Connecticut would like to thank everyone who offered their support during 2007.
Last year brought many new developments, one of which was the merger of three United Ways to form United Way of Western Connecticut. We continue to provide solutions on a local scale, but with the added benefit of a regional perspective addressing issues that influence all three communities.
With the help of over 100 volunteers, United Way has moved from an intermediary funder to a community builder in the truest sense. Thanks to our compassionate business partners and individual donors, we funded over 100 local programs that will address education, health and self sufficiency. But we also became more involved in the specific issues of housing and early childhood education. This has allowed us to work with many more partners, including our local governments, the school systems and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
We hope our community is stronger because of our efforts in sponsoring predatory lending workshops, supporting Project Homeless Connect, working on a community plan to get all children ready for school, and bringing together over 1,000 employees from area companies to volunteer through our annual Day of Caring.
2007 was a year to remember: a successful regional merger, many community events, and the support of individuals and corporations to make an impact on our community. We thank all who took part, and look forward to working with you again in 2008!
