Award-Winning Dance Projects

Three dance groups sponsored by The Graceful Planet in Sandy Hook performed during The International Dance Challenge Regional Competition at The Palace Theater in Waterbury last month.

The studio’s Karma Dance Project won a High Gold Medal for their performance of a dance called “Hide and Seek,” a work that had been choreographed by Grace Barton Harvey. The dance also won an Artistry in Motion Award.

The group also won a silver medal for their performance of “Free For All,” choreographed by Liz Tevolini. Rachel Fisher performed a solo and received a gold medal for her efforts.

In addition to Rachel, the dancers in this group were Alana Gilbert, Maura Gissen, Jennifer Lynn, Sara Regensburger, Nicole Reyen and Monica Warek.

The Petite Karma Dance Project performed “Kids of The Future,” another work that had been choreographed by Ms Harvey, and won a gold medal. Members of this group were Sarah Frank, Tara Franklin, Cailee Harvey, Avery Jerris, Miranda Martovich, Meghan O’Rourke, Brenna Petrelli and Jordon Stofko.

Also, The Junior Karma Dance Project performed “Iko Iko,” another work choreographed by Ms Harvey, and won a sterling silver medal. Members of the group included Nikole Giovannone, Samantha James, Abigail Miller, Leah Nashel, Megan Nayar, Brittany Pearson, Morgan Reiss, Nicole Rothenbucher and Morgan Winters.
