SOUTHBURY — “Throwing Your Pebble Into the Pond: How Each of Us Can Change the World” is the theme of a talk by Dr Gerard Brooker at the April 21 Love & Knishes Lunch Program at noon at the Jewish Federation. Dr Brooker will talk about his personal quest to find meaning and commitment, starting with being a monk for seven years; journeys throughout the seven continents; initiating peace and development conferences in the Soviet Union, China, Japan and Vietnam; and using ideas from these experiences to write books of poetry and novels.

He will place special emphasis on his latest book, The Illustrator, an uplifting love story that is set in Auschwitz-Birkenau and based on his trips to these camps and Dachau.

On April 28, “Baroque to Broadway” is the theme when pianist Jeanne Hinkson’s popular Piano Plus One is proud to introduce Seth Uricheck, a young local violinist who will play a rich program of string favorites. Included will be Vivaldi’s “Spring” from The Four Seasons, several short and well- known melodies and a few in classic Gypsy style.

All area adults age 60 and better are invited to make reservations to enjoy lunch and programs in the Jewish Federation’s social hall at 444 Main St. North. Hundreds of guests are welcomed each month to come together for delicious dining, friendship and fun entertainment. The award-winning Jordan Caterers of Cheshire prepares the bountiful and healthful hot lunch each week, which is served at noon followed by entertainment at 1 p.m.

Lunch reservations must be made by the Friday before each lunch. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested lunch donation of $7 for adults age 60 and better and $9.50 for those under 60.

To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service Director, at 203-267-3177, extension 105.
