Police Plan Fundraiser For Special Olympics Torch Run
Town police plan to hold a fundraiser to support their upcoming participation in the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.
From 9 am to noon on Saturday, May 9, town police will participate in the Tip-A-Cop fundraiser to be held at Dunkinâ Donuts at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street.
Police will be assisting the storeâs staff, accepting donations for the Special Olympics, and selling various merchandise in support of the Special Olympics.
In early June, town police plan to participate in the local leg of the torch run. A torch carrier, accompanied by a group of runners from the police department and from Garner Correctional Institution, will carry the âFlame of Hopeâ through town symbolizing their support of the Special Olympics program.
Information on donating to the program is available from town police Officer Jeff Silver at the police station at 426-5841, or via email at silvernpd@yahoo.com.
