NMS Interact Club Collecting Food For FAITH

The Newtown Middle School Interact Club will be collecting canned food for the FAITH Food Pantry in Sandy Hook throughout the month of April. NMS teacher Bruce Moulthrop said a barrel has been set up in the schoolâs main lobby to serve as a drop location for anyone who wishes to add to the cause.
The date for the food to be donated is tentatively set for April 30. The clubâs collection for the FAITH Food Pantry comes just one month after it lead another schoolwide promotion; in March each homeroom in the middle school collected Pennies for Patients, a program for educators and students through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help raise money to find cures for blood cancers.
Mr Moulthrop said the schoolâs Interact Club started participating with the Pennies for Patients program last year when the school raised roughly $2,250. This year he raised the bar, and had the club try to raise an even $2,500. By the end of March the school fell short, raising just over $1,670, but, Mr Moulthrop said, especially with the economy as it is, the point is to raise the money.
Mr Moulthrop said he hopes community members and students alike will donate canned food for the FAITH Food Pantry in the barrel now set up in the schoolâs lobby.
