Prepare For

‘The Music Man’

By Eliza Hallabeck

After school on Mondays and Tuesday at Newtown Middle School students have been preparing the upcoming production of The Music Man, scheduled for performances at the school on March 5 through 7.

The Music Man is a musical about a con man named Harold Hill, who goes from town to town selling band instruments and uniforms before leaving town with the money and not delivering the orders. Conflict begins with Harold meets a librarian named Marian, who discovers his secret.

“It’s a great story,” said middle schooler Megan Primavera, who will be playing the part of Marian, “and everyone is working really hard. I think it is going to be great.”

Megan said she is excited to be playing the role of Marian.

Jeff Haylon, who will be playing the role of Harold, said the middle school plays are always well put together.

“It’s just a good part, I think in general,” said Jeff about his character. “He’s this con man who ends up going straight, because he is in love. It shows the development of the character really well.”

NMS Language Arts teacher and director for the play Jennifer Sinal said the production will be great.

“Seeing the play is a great way to support local arts,” said Ms Sinal during a rehearsal on January 13. “And The Music Man really is about sticking together as a community. It’s going to be great.”
