Pick A Better Place To Vote
Pick A Better Place To Vote
To the Editor:
The budget referendum votes are held every year at the middle school and because the school is in session on these days, the traffic and parking becomes a nightmare, especially in the morning. With repeated budget defeats each year, voters and parents dropping off students have to navigate this mess more than once. Using the middle school as a polling place on the regular Election Day in November is not a problem because the schools are closed.
I suggest that the location for budget voting be moved to Newtown Municipal Center at Fairfield Hills. There is a very large conference room in this building where meetings are held which would comfortably accommodate the voting booths, tables, election officials, etc. There is also ample parking at this site.
I am not aware of any reason why this cannot be done, but I may be wrong. If such a change can be made, then it is time for our town officials to start thinking âoutside the boxâ and stop doing things merely because thatâs the way weâve always done them.
