Gas Prices Rise In Connecticut

HARTFORD (AP) –– The average price of gasoline in Connecticut rose four cents in the last month, bringing the price of self-service regular gasoline to $1.63 a gallon, the AAA said Tuesday.

The August gas prices are more than ten cents higher than the same time last year, when the average price for regular gas was $1.52 a gallon.

Prices for gasoline are going up nationwide, AAA said. The average cost nationwide increased from $1.52 to $1.57 per gallon.

Connecticut has the second-highest gas prices in the northeast region. New York has the most expensive gas, at $1.64 a gallon. Massachusetts’ gas costs $1.57 a gallon, and Rhode Island gas is $1.61 a gallon.

Midgrade and premium gasoline also increased four cents a gallon, and now cost $1.76 and $1.81, respectively.

The automobile association surveys about 1,000 service stations in the state each month to determine the average price.
