Tree Lightings Planned
Newtown will host three tree lightings this year.
The first will be Friday, November 30, when the tree at Ram Pasture will be lit. Festivities including caroling and live music led by student groups from Newtown High School will begin at 6:30. The tree will be lit at 7, and the evening will continue with visits from Santa and Mrs Claus, and refreshments.
The 11th Annual Sandy Hook Tree Lighting will be Saturday, December 1.
Sponsored by Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP), events will begin at 4 pm, leading to the lighting of the tree in Sandy Hook Glen, 2 Washington Avenue, at 6. Holiday treats and gifts, face painting, karaoke at the tree, 3-D glasses to view the tree, jingle bell bracelets, eggnog and gingerbread latte samples, live music, hot cider, desserts, balloons, dining specials, and a raffle for one boyâs bicycle and one girlâs bicycle will all be part of the event.
SHOP is asking attendees to bring a donation for FAITH Food Pantry that evening. Newtown Middle School Carolers will be at the tree that evening, continuing the caroling after the tree is lit for the season.
Hawleyville will host its Third Annual Tree Lighting event on Sunday, December 2. It will run from 5:30 to 6:30 pm and it will be dedicated to Robert âBuckyâ Dean and Charles Speidel, both of whom passed away within the last year.
