Choral Society Has Been Awarded A Matching Grant From CCS

Newtown Choral Society has been awarded a matching grant from Connecticut Commission on the Arts. Mary Andreotta, the director of the choral society, made the announcement concerning the grant’s receipt this week.

The grant will be used to underwrite the choral society’s performance of J. Woolcock’s Magnificat, scheduled for early December. The grant proposal was written by Laura Lerman.

Now in its 11th year, the choral society meets September through May on Wednesday evenings at Newtown Middle School. The group traditionally performs two major concerts a year, in December and May. The choral society performed at the dedication of the re-opening of C.H. Booth Library and will be participating at the re-dedication of the organ at Newtown Meeting House in September.

Newtown Choral Society always welcomes new members, and there are currently openings in all voice sections. For more information on membership or to be placed on the society’s mailing list for performances, call 426-3769.
