CFE Honors

Rep Stripp

FAIRFIELD — State Rep John E. Stripp, R-135th District, was honored Sunday with an award from the Connecticut Fund for the Environment for his “extraordinary efforts to protect and preserve Connecticut’s endangered water company lands.”

The award was presented at CFE’s annual meeting at the Penfield Pavilion II in Fairfield.

Rep Stripp joined CFE’s attempted intervention at the state Department of Public Utility Control this year to block the sale of the Bridgeport Hydraulic Co to the Kelda Group, a multi-national company based in England. The attempted intervention was aimed at protecting more than 10,000 acres of land owned by the BHC.

Rep Stripp also was a co-sponsor of the state’s 1998 Open Space Act, which is designed to preserve 21 percent of the state’s land area as open space. Last year, Rep Stripp worked with the state Department of Environmental Protection to help secure $6 million in Open Space funding toward the purchase of the BHC’s Trout Brook Valley property in Easton and Weston.
