Unveiling The New David McCauley Bridge
David McCauley, second from right, was honored recently when the bridge on the horse trail at the end of Flintlock Trail was renamed the David McCauley Bridge. First Selectman Herb Rosenthal, State Representative Debra Lee Hovey and Dee Davis of the Newtown Bridle Lands Association were on hand on October 20 for the dedication. The bridge was decorated with mums and crossed with a red ribbon. Members of the Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard were also present at the ceremony. The NBLA presented Mr McCauley with a framed picture of him and his former beloved mount, Sage, in the Labor Day parade. The stone with the plaque commemorating Davidâs contributions to preserving open space was unveiled at this time. Davidâs horse, Cyrano, was present at the ceremony and was the first to cross the bridge after David cut the ribbon. A cake and champagne reception followed at the home of one of the NBLA members.
