The Genealogy Club of Newtown will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, November 14, at 7 pm, in the lower meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.
Guest speaker will be Thomas Jay Kemp, who will present âGenealogy Bank: A Powerful Online Resource.â Mr Kemp will help attendees discover the 220 million items available from newspapers, government reports and early Americana. There is no better source for early American newspapers.
Tom Kemp is the director of genealogy products at NewsBank. A well-known librarian and a genealogist for more than 40 years, he is also the author of more than two dozen books. His numerous articles regularly appear in state and national library, archival and genealogical journals. He was previously director of the Godfrey Library in Middletown.
Mr Kemp has served on many national and regional library and genealogy boards including as chair of the Council of National Library and Information Associations (CNLIA), vice president of the Association of Professional Genealogists, and on the Board of Directors of the Federation of Genealogical Societies.
Mr Kemp is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Utah Genealogical Association. He is a life member of the Association for the Bibliography of History, the New England Archivists, the New Hampshire Library Association and the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society.
His most recent books include Virtual Roots 2.0: A Guide to Genealogy and Local History on the World Wide Web (Wilmington, DR: Scholarly Resources, 2003, with CD-ROM) and The 1930 Census: A Reference and Research Guide (North Salt Lake, UT: ProQuest, 2003).
