The Winter Guard Says Thanks
To the Editor:
On behalf of the Newtown High School Varsity Winter Guard, we would like to thank the merchants in Newtown for allowing us to use their storefronts this past weekend as a means to solicit donations for our trip to the Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, Ohio, this April. Our thanks goes out to Katherineâs Kitchen, The Sandy Hook Diner, Newtown Hardware, Andreaâs Pastry Shop, and Ace Hardware, as well as all the generous residents of Newtown for their support and donations.
The guard will be continuing its fundraising efforts through April, as they are responsible for raising the funds themselves for travel expenses for this competition. The guard is looking for donations to help make this trip possible. The Newtown High School Varsity Guard is made up of 19 talented and dedicated students from Newtown whose list of accomplishments include: MAC (Musical Arts Conference) Champions six years in a row â 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009; SWC Champions four years: 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009; Semi-Finalists in the 2006, 2007 and 2008; and Winter Guard International World Championships.
If you would like to make a donation they can be mailed to: Newtown Varsity Winter Guard, C/O Newtown High School Marching Band & Color Guard, PO Box 3333, Newtown CT 06470. Checks should be made payable to: NHSBPC with a notation that the funds are for the Varsity Winter Guard WGI. For further information, the Winter Guard can be contacted at: NHSWINTERGUARD@aol.com.
