Registration Open For Historical Society’s 2010 History Camp

Newtown Historical Society announces registration is open for its 2010 History Camp . The camp will be held July 12–16 at the Matthew Curtiss House, 44 Main Street, the home of the historical society.

The annual camp explores the life of a colonial child living in Newtown around the year 1750. Campers discover how a child dressed, make garments to wear and keep, learn what jobs they might be expected to do, what games they would have played, what lessons were important to learn, and what food the family would have eaten.

Campers will prepare and cook a meal on the open hearth as well as make a variety of snacks.

This camp is for children between ages 8 and 10 and costs $150 per child. Space is limited to ten campers in order to guarantee a rich hands-on experience.

To reserve a child’s opportunity to attend, send a nonrefundable $25 deposit, which will be applied to the camp fee, to Newtown Historical Society Summer Camp, PO Box 18, Newtown 06470.
