ESKENAZI WILL PRESENT ASIAN SCULPTURE AT ADAM WILLIAMS MARCH 12 IN NYC; W/1 CUT

SET 2/21 AVV/CD #729833

NEW YORK CITY — London dealer John Eskenazi will feature important Asian sculpture in his annual exhibition staged for the first time at Adam Williams Fine Art Ltd, 24 East 80th Street, March 12–29.

Eskenazi, a dealer in Indian, Gandharan, Himalayan and Southeast Asian works of art, plans his annual exhibition to coincide with New York’s Asia Week.

One of the highlights is a powerful royal portrait head in sandstone from Salt Hills, northern Punjab, Pakistan, dating from the Sixth/Seventh Century.

A terra cotta bodhisattva head from the Gandhara region to northwest Pakistan or Afghanistan dates from the Fourth/Fifth Century.

An early piece is a slender terra cotta vase that comes from the Chandraketugarh area of Bengal, eastern India, and dates from the Second/First Century BCE.

Other exhibition standouts include a Thirteenth Century bronze Buddha seated on a high throne from Lopburi, eastern Thailand, dating from the Khmer period; a Seventh Century Cambodian limestone figure of a goddess dates from the Pre-Angkorian period, Prei Khmeng style; a cholorite figure from eastern India of the compassionate goddess Khadiravani Tara with two attendant goddesses, second half of the Eleventh Century; and a wooden strut from Nepal, dating from around the Thirteenth Century.
