P&Z Approves
Rand-Whitney Expansion
The Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) has approved an Edmond Road factoryâs expansion proposal.
P&Z members July 20 unanimously approved Rand-Whitney Container Newtown, LLCâs, plans to add a 2,000-square-foot expansion wing to the north side of its factory at 1 Edmond Road in an M-2 Industrial zone. The factory manufactures cardboard boxes.
The expansion wing is designed to hold the factoryâs equipment which recycles industrial process water and also to hold a trash compactor.
Paul Schaffman, representing Rand-Whitney, told P&Z members that locating the water recycling equipment in a new wing will provide the firm with more space within the factory for expanded operations.
The expansion wing also may house a large industrial trash compactor, according to attorney Robert Hall, representing Rand-Whitney. Positioning the compactor in the wing would allow waste to be discarded without the need to go outdoors.
The expansion wing will be shielded from plain sight by a stockade fence. Â
