Man Faces Multiple Charges In Gunfire Incident

Police said they charged Alexander J. Reznikoff, 43, of 59 Poverty Hollow Road with first-degree reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and possession of marijuana on the morning of August 9.
Police said they charged Reznikoff outdoors at that address after Reznikoff allegedly fired two shots from a handgun straight up into the air.
Police have said that soon after police Patrol Officer Michael McGowan had stopped a motor vehicle on Poverty Hollow Road about 8:45 am August 9, the officer heard a shot of gunfire nearby.
Officer McGowan then heard a second shot fired, so he alerted the police dispatcher of the situation via police radio. Several police quickly arrived at the scene.
Reznikoff, who had just had a domestic dispute at 59 Poverty Hollow Road, entered a motor vehicle in a driveway next to the house, police said. Reznikoff then fired the two shots straight up into the air from the vehicle, police said. There were no injuries.
When confronted by police, Reznikoff surrendered without incident, police said. Reznikoff apparently was relieving tension by firing the weapon following the domestic dispute, police said.
Bullets which are fired straight up eventually return to the ground and can injure people on impact, resulting in the first-degree reckless endangerment charge against Reznikoff, police said.
It was coincidental and fortunate that Officer McGowan was in the area when the shots were fired to intervene in the situation, police have said.
Late on the morning of Thursday August 9, neither Reznikoffâs identity, nor the charges in the case, had been available from police. After processing the case, police released Reznikoff from custody.
Reznikoff was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on August 10 to answer the three charges.
