New Steven Kellogg Book: Steven Kelloggâs new book, A Penguin Pup for Pinkerton, is sure to be another classic. Steven has graciously agreed to sign copies of his new book and several of his most popular titles over the Thanksgiving weekend. Books may be purchased in the Childrenâs Department and Steven will be happy to personalize an autographed copy to your favorite child. Purchases must be made by November 20.
Young Adult Book Discussion: Liz Arneth will lead a discussion of J.R.R. Tolkienâs, Fellowship of the Ring, on Tuesday, December 4, 4:30-5:30 pm. Multiple copies of the book are available in the Childrenâs Department. Read the book and discuss it with your friends before you see the movie.
Adult Programs
Evening Book Discussion Group: Discuss Corelliâs Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres on Thursday, November 15, at 7:30 pm in the Special Collections room. Corelliâs Mandolin is set on the idyllic Greek island of Cephallonia, and follows the lives of its inhabitants from the peaceful days prior to World War II through the Italian occupation of the island to the present. Join in for an evening of lively discussion and good fellowship. Several copies of the book are available at the library.
Flagpole Photographers Club: Paul Hanson will speak about farms and barns on Thursday, November 15, at 7:30 pm. The monthly subject will be âOpen Prints.â The public is invited and refreshments will be served.
Intermediate Computer Class: Dan Tannenbaum of the Newtown Computer Training Center will be conducting an intermediate computer class on Saturday, November 17, from 9 am to noon. This class will focus on more advanced topics such as email, including sending and receiving attachments. There is a $10 fee for this class and preregistration is required.
Daytime Book Group: Discuss The Optimistâs Daughter by Eudora Welty on Monday, November 19, at 1 pm in the Special Collections room. The Optimistâs Daughter is the story of Laurel McKelva, a young woman who has left the South and returns years later to New Orleans where her father is dying. Several copies of the books are available at the library and new members are always welcome.
Family Counseling Workshop: The Family Counseling Center will sponsor a free educational workshop on Tuesday, November 20, at 7 pm. The November topic will be âThe Impact of ADD/ADHD.â There is no need to register.
Blood Pressure Screening: Ashlar is sponsoring a free blood pressure screening in the genealogy room from 10 am to noon on Wednesday, November 28. No appointment is necessary.
