Newtown High School junior Jennifer Dunseith has been honored as the Newtown Youth Services Job Bank Member of the Month for her hard work and dedication.
Jenn has been working for the Job Bank since the beginning of the school year cleaning houses and baby-sitting. She has particularly been working for Bonnie Sailer.
âI am so impressed with Jenn. She has such poise and ease with children,â Mrs Sailer said. âI am really enjoying her being here with my kids.â
The NYS Job Bank is for Newtown youth ages 13 to 17. The bank provides jobs to youth that meet the needs of community members who list their opportunities with the Job Bank. Jobs range from baby-sitting to yard work to help at parties to animal care to light office work. The bank even has a website for both youth workers and people who need jobs fulfilled, hometown.aol.com/nysjobbank/home.html.
âI started off because I just wanted something else to do with my time,â Jenn said. âGetting out there and experiencing some kind of work.â
Jenn felt the Job Bank was a perfect place to start getting work experience because of her age and the need for a flexible schedule since she is also involved with clubs and other activities after the school day. The Job Bank allowed her to choose what days worked for her and what kind of work she felt would best suit her. Working with children was definitely a place Jenn wanted to start.
âIâm very organized and Iâm really social,â Jenn said. âIâm good at dealing with people. I love kids, anything to do with kids. Iâm responsible.â
Jenn encouraged other youth as well as community members to call Erin Hayes, Job Bank coordinator, because the program is a win-win for everyone involved.
âItâs definitely beneficial. Itâs hard to find a job when you are 15 or 16,â Jenn said. âItâs trustworthy too. I needed a flexible job [since Iâm involved with drama, singing, and church]. I think itâs good for people who need that.â
âTry it out,â Jenn added. âThe Job Bank is so flexible. Itâs worth a try. Give it a chance, you never know.â
Patrons or youth wanting job experience can reach Erin Hayes at NYS at 270-4335 or hometown.aol.com/nysjobbank/home.html.
