Bomb Scare At Waste Transfer Station

Police report that at about 7:30 am Saturday, July 12, a town waste transfer station employee came across an object there among the refuse, which appeared suspicious to him, and possibly an explosive device.

Police said that on hearing that report, they closed the facility on Ethan Allen Road to the public and then secured the area. Botsford firefighters responded to the scene.

A state police bomb squad member was called to the transfer station to inspect the device, police said. State police determined the object was not a bomb and then removed it from the transfer station.

While the transfer station was closed for about one hour that morning, the town parked a truck on Ethan Allen Road, where residents left their refuse, police said.

The transfer station is used on Saturdays by residents who bring their own waste there for disposal.

Sergeant Christopher Vanghele, who supervised the incident for police, said the town employee was wise to alert police of what appeared to be a suspicious object.
