Junior Ambulance Corps Established

The Newtown Ambulance Association has approved the establishment of a Junior Ambulance Corps, which will be comprised of youth 16 years of age and older. The application deadline for the Corps has been extended to May 13. Applications are available at the Career Center at Newtown High School for young people interested in joining this volunteer organization.

The Junior Ambulance Corps program has been implemented to educate youth about emergency medical training, and hopefully increase trained volunteers in the future for Newtown Ambulance. An orientation meeting for accepted applicants and their parents is scheduled for 7:30 pm on Friday, May 20, at the ambulance garage.

Deb Aubin, director of the new program, will conduct two training sessions on safety, infectious diseases, and confidentiality  May 26 and June 2.

After completion of the training, Junior Ambulance Corps will ride with two senior EMTs when  responding to emergency calls in Newtown.
