Sculpture At SCAN
Sculpture At SCAN
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host a presentation by the sculptor Mary Lou Alberetti on Wednesday, February 22, at 1:30 pm. The program, which is free and open to non-members, will be at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (Route 25) in Newtown.
The ceramic bas-reliefs and sculptures of Ms Alberetti show the influences of the architecture and the classical forms of sculpture gathered by Ms Alberetti during travels in Italy, where she has lived, taught and studied.
Her clay works are slab constructed, carved and multi-fired with slip, stains, underglazes and dry textured glazes. Colors are sponged, brushed and sprayed.
During her demonstration for SCAN, Ms Alberetti will show the various stages of constructing a figurative sculpture with textured slabs of various colored clays. Her sculpture âDark Angelâ will be shown as an example of a kiln-fired completed sculpture. Ms Alberetti is a professor emerita at Southern CT State University. She is presently a full-time artist and works in a studio in New
Fairfield. She teaches workshops in ceramic sculpture at Wooster Art Center in Danbury and Washington Art Association in Washington Depot.
