Chorale’s Spring Concert Will Be A Musical Celebration

WATERBURY — Under the direction of Joseph J. Jacovino, Jr, Waterbury Chorale will present its spring concert at the magnificent Waterbury landmark, the Shrine of Saint Anne, on Sunday, May 7, at 4 pm. The Waterbury Chorale Festival Orchestra, with Susan Theodos accompanist and area improvisational jazz artists, will accompany the 100 plus voices of the Chorale in the stirring performance of “To Hope – A Musical  Celebration,” a Mass composed by jazz legend Dave Brubeck for chorus, orchestra, hand bell choir and vocal soloists.

Other well-loved and inspirational sacred selections form the remainder of the program. Among these are Ave Verum Corpus in honor of Mozart’s 250th birthday, Ave Maria by Bruckner, Cantique de Jean Racine Op II by Faure and sung in French, “The Lord’s Prayer” by Malotte, “Hallelujah” from The Mount of Olives by Beethoven, and “You Raise Me Up” by Graham/Lovland/arr.Knight.

Mr Jacovino has composed a special sacred piece, “Enshrined in the Grace of God,” dedicated to the Shrine of Saint Anne. This composition will be premiered at the May 7 concert.

Suggested donation is $20. Tickets are available by calling Jean Schmidt at 203-755-2561.

The Shrine of St Anne is at 515 South Main Street.
