STEPHEN FISHER AT PEPPER GALLERY

avv/gs set 2/20 #729676

BOSTON, MASS. — “Stephen Fisher: Drawings and Prints” is on view through March 22 at Pepper Gallery. Fisher’s meticulously rendered still life drawings and prints illustrate his fascination with nostalgic, some ordinary, some exotic objects. The arrangements appear to be casual yet are quite calculated to capture the well-defined shadows and reflections, which result in highly complicated compositions. These works deliberately question the spatial relationships between objects and surface.

Also on exhibit will be a selection of prints of woodland settings. These moody images of overgrown and secluded locations demonstrate Fisher’s continued fascination with pattern and line, light and shadow. Bundles of tangled limbs and underbrush occasionally break away to a distant clearing or a rudimentary road carved through the woods.

Fisher has work included in numerous museums, corporate and private collections, including the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the National Gallery. He has recently received his third Fritz Eichenberg Fellowship in Drawing and Printmaking from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts.

The gallery is at 38 Newbury Street. For information, www.peppergalleryboston.com or 617-236-4497.
