The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard is sponsoring an Emergency Tack and Horse Equipment Drive to benefit the Strawberry Mansion Equestrian Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

SMEC is a non-profit riding group for disadvantaged inner-city youths. Strawberry Mansion is located in an impoverished area of Philadelphia.

SMEC provides riding programs to inner city kids that would otherwise never even see a horse.

SMEC currently keeps its herd of 25-30 horses in vacant lots and abandoned buildings. The group is in desperate need of tack and horse equipment supplies. Items needed the most are horse blankets and riding helmets, but all tack and horse related equipment is badly needed.

People wishing to donate new, or used items (that are in good condition), can drop them off at the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard’s headquarters located on Wildlife Drive in Newtown weekends between 8 am and 4 pm, from now until December 9.

For any questions or for items to be picked up, contact LT Robert Dahm at 270-9246.
