Neighborhood Frustrations

To the Editor:

To the residents at Buttonball Drive and all surrounding streets:

I am writing this letter to inform my neighbors of the numerous thefts from our autos that have occurred since June 2008. Many of you may not be aware how serious this problem has grown and that it is still unresolved by the Newtown Police Department. My car was locked, received damage, but I had no items in it. My vehicle was entered during the night about a month ago, and just last week the thieves entered it again and did the damage.

I, along with many of my neighbors, am very frustrated by the fact that this has continued so long with no resolution. I do know the Newtown police are collecting facts to develop leads on this case, but I do not understand why it has continued for almost three months.

On Monday I learned that someone attempted to break into a home on Buttonball Drive. They were not successful. Do we have to wait for a home invasion for the police to move on this? I do have the utmost respect for Newtown police, but I felt my report to them was “blown-off.” So to my neighbors, lock everything, get motion lights, and be on guard. We will have to be the eyes and ears to help the police catch these thieves. Home invasion is not something I want to read about in The Bee.
