Tea And A Musical Performance At NMS
By Eliza Hallabeck
After school on Thursday, March 19, tea, students and Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson waited to welcome senior citizens to the school. As part of a PTA event, the seniors had been invited to view the final dress rehearsal of the middle schoolâs production of Annie, which was performed March 20 to 22.
Dr Robinson spoke briefly to give the roughly 20 attendees information on the school district. âWe hope you will be aware of what we do in our schools,â she said.
The Newtown Middle School PTA and other parents provided food and tea for the event.
Dr Robinson began her brief discussion with the schoolâs visitors by telling them about the musical with which they were about to be entertained.
âYouâre going to be amazed at the talent they have,â she said about the actors in Annie, a musical based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie.
Dr Robinson told the group that she has enjoyed being in Newtown, and that âNewtown is a friendly place to be.â She also said there are programs in the schools that can use senior citizen volunteers in partnerships with students.
After Dr Robinson spoke, the seniors were brought to the auditorium where they watched the performance.
