‘FAKES AND FORGERIES’ AT BARD OCT. 23

NEW YORK CITY — The Bard Graduate Center will present a seminar, “Fakes and Forgeries in Silver,” on Tuesday, October 23, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

The daylong seminar, presented by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and Assay Office London, offers an opportunity for silver collectors and dealers to gain firsthand experience in the identification of fake and forged antique silver, including handling sessions and lectures.

Silver experts participating include Robert Organ, “Regulating the Silver Trade: The English Hallmarking System”; Christina Reti, “The Final Word on Fakes: The Role of the Assay Office and the Antique Plate Committee”; Tim Swann, “Test Methods: The Use of Scientific Technology in Authenticating Silver Plate”; Tim Schroder, “The Connoisseurship of Fakes and Forgeries”; and Charles Truman, “A Gem of a Fake: Targeting Fake Renaissance Jewelry.”

The program is presented by The Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture. Advance registration required. Admission: $120 general, $100 seniors and students. The graduate center is at 38 West 86th Street City.
