NHS To Host the 14th Annual Joseph P. Grasso Marching Band Festival Saturday
The Newtown High School Marching band is gearing up for its 14th Annual Joseph P. Grasso Marching Band Festival, scheduled for this Saturday, October 16.
A dozen high school marching bands from Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey will take to the newly refurbished football field for Newtownâs âHome Showâ Musical Arts Conference competition.
The competition will kick off at 6:15 pm, and it will conclude at 10 pm with the NHS Marching Band and Guard exhibition performance of âLegacy,â a salute to the music of Aaron Copeland.
More than 20 Marching Band and Color Guard seniors and their parents will be honored for their years with the group, under the direction of Kurt Eckhardt. The Grasso Festival is expected to attract upwards of a thousand spectators, and is a fundraiser for the Marching Band and Guard.
Band Parents will be working Saturday to prepare baked goods, homemade chicken soup, chili and macaroni and cheese, along with freshly grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, for sale at the event. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids. Admission for children 5 and under are free.
The Newtown Nighthawks Marching Band and Guard also won third place in a band competition in New Milford on Saturday, October 9. Norwalk earned first place, and Port Chester scored just 0.2 points more than Newtown to win second place.
