Open Auditions For Evening Of Original Poetry

RIDGEFIELD — Ridgefield Theater Barn, at 37 Halpin Lane,  will hold open auditions for “Word Around Town: An Evening of Original Poetry” on Sunday, May 22, 4 to 6 pm and Monday, May 23, 7 to 9 pm.

The event, being directed by Patti Azzara and produced by Marla Manning, will be presented Wednesday, June 22, at 8 pm.

Far from the poetry most might remember from grammar school, or the painful prose that haunted many during high school and college, “Word Around Town” will be an evening of original verse from the minds of local wordsmiths. The hope of Ms Azzara, a poet herself, is that the inaugural evening of free-form and prose will encourage self-expression through the poetic arts, while also promoting local artists and their craft.

“Word Around Town” welcomes everyone who crafts and enjoys poetry.

Those auditioning are asked to perform two or three short pieces from memory; additional pieces may also be submitted for consideration. All poems (up to ten) should be typed, one poem per page. Preference will be given to free-form poetry and pieces without heavily rhymed line endings.

Poems must be your own original work; the director is not interested in Poe, Keats, or Dickinson, etc. Previously published work is allowed. Wear comfortable clothing that will allow movement. Additional details and directions to the theater are available at ridgefieldtheaterbarn.org or from Ms Azzara, who can be reached at 203-470-8233.
