Redistricting Panel Slates Public Hearings

HARTFORD (AP) — The legislative panel charged with redrawing Connecticut’s congressional and legislative district lines is conducting its first public hearings to collect public input on a redistricting plan.

The bipartisan Reapportionment Committee of the General Assembly met this week in Waterbury and Norwich and has slated additional hearings in Norwalk on July 18 and New Haven on July 19. Two hearings are planned in Hartford on July 20.

The committee is required by federal and state laws to redraw district boundaries every ten years to adjust to changing populations. Census figures showed Connecticut’s population was 3.57 million people as of April 2010, a 4.9 percent population increase over ten years.
