Ives Festival Orchestra To Perform Mozart, July 16

DANBURY — The Ives Festival Orchestra, conducted by Western Connecticut State University Music Professor Dr Fernando Jimenez, will perform “Mozart at the Ives: A Representative Vignette of His Music” at 5 pm on Saturday, July 16. The concert will be sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank as part of the Fine Arts and Family Series at Ives Concert Park, located on the WCSU Westside campus, 43 Lake Avenue Extension.

The program will begin with Symphony No. 1, composed when Mozart was 8 years old. Mozart’s solo writing is represented by Flute Concerto in G, to be performed by Dr Keri Walker, the orchestra’s principal flutist and faculty member of WCSU’s department of music.

The composer’s masterful opera writing will be represented in this program by the “Marriage of Figaro Overture,” as well as two arias from the same opera: Porgi amor and Dove sono, both performed by Danbury native Cidalia Alves. Closing the program, the orchestra will perform Symphony No. 41 (“Jupiter”), considered by many as the crowning achievement of true classical symphony writing.

Admission is free.
