2010-11 School Year 'Rolls Out'
2010-11 School Year âRolls Outâ
Staff members waved goodbye to students at Newtown Middle School on Wednesday, June 22, for the last day of the 2010-11 academic year.
Stationed on the sideway at the end of the main parking lot at the school, NMS Principal Diane Sherlock joined teachers and other staff members waving goodbye with pompoms and yellow smiley face posters.
Some students said personal goodbyes, like one student who stopped to shake hands with School Resource Officer Leonard Penna. Other students rushed by with backpacks haphazardly slung on shoulders and friends by their side. Some students waited to board their school bus before pressing up against window and hanging hands out into the air to flap and shout goodbyes to the teachers standing along the sidewalk.
Across the school district students were picked up by parents, walking home with friends, and riding the bus home for the last time during the 2010-11 academic year.
âRollinâ out,â one NMS teacher said, as the buses carrying students left NMS, with honks and steamers trailing behind in the wind.
