Multiple Charges

David Robertson, 26, of 62 Hanover Road turned himself over to police on the morning of November 9, after learning that police had an outstanding warrant for his rearrest on multiple charges.

The warrant initially was issued July 9, 1998, but Robertson had been out of the state, police said.

Police charged Robertson with failure to appear in court, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, operating a motor vehicle with unsafe tires, failure to wear a seat belt, and failure to drive to the right.

After processing the case, Robertson was released on a $250 bond for a November 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Alcohol/Drug

Mary M. Whitlock, 39, of New Fairfield was charged with driving under the influence, possession of cocaine, and improper passing on the night of November 9, following a minor auto accident on Church Hill Road.

The collision occurred at the end of an Interstate 84 off-ramp at Church Hill Road. Police said a search turned up the cocaine after the accident.

After processing, police released Whitlock on a $200 bond for a November 27 court appearance.

Church Hill Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Church Hill Road, near the Blue Colony Diner, about noon November 8.

Motorist Janice E. Applegate, 73, of Jackson, N.J., was driving a 1997 Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan westbound, and then stopped and waited before turning left toward the diner parking lot, but collided with eastbound motorist Howard E. Hopkins, 51, of Bethel, who was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Applegate a written warning for making an improper turn.

Mitsubishi Vs Deer

Motorist Donald Cohen, 55, of Mahopac, N.Y., was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant southbound on South Main Street near Wills Road on the afternoon of November 3, when a deer ran onto the road and collided with the auto, police said. Mr Cohen was not injured. There was no enforcement action.

Package Store

Police responded to a complaint about 2 am November 9 that someone had broken the front window of Pootatuck Spirits, a package store on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center.

 A caller told police that he heard the sound of breaking glass as two young white males left the package store area in an older blue hatchback-style auto. A police check of the area did not turn up the youths.

Police ask anyone with information about the window vandalism to call them at 426-5841; tips can be anonymous.

Trucks Collide

Motorist Charles Dorey, 31, of 159 Huntingtown Road, was driving a 1985 Toyota pickup truck eastbound on Cedar Hill Road about 1:40 pm November 9, as motorist Francis Bonacassio, 42, of Wolcott was driving a 1986 Mack truck southbound on South Main Street, according to police.

The Toyota entered South Main Street and the two trucks collided.

There were no injuries. Police issued Dorey an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign.

Toddy Hill Accident

Motorist Carmen Lewis, 41, of 301 South Main Street was driving a vehicle in a line of traffic on northbound Toddy Hill Road about 7:30 am November 7, when Lewis stopped for a red traffic signal at Toddy Hill Road’s intersection with Route 34, and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Gary Marinelli, 17, of 165 Huntingtown Road, who was driving a 1987 Pontiac 6000 station wagon, police said.

Lewis complained of pain, but refused medical attention, police said. Marinelli was issued a written warning for following too closely.

 

Queen Street Crash

Motorist Daryle Brown, 51, of Danbury, who was driving a 1994 Ford Escort, was traveling southbound on Queen Street about 7:30 pm November 9, while motorist Edward Schlossberg, 80, of 22 South Main Street, who was driving a 1989 Buick Rivera, was stopped at a stop sign on eastbound Glover Avenue, police said.

As the Ford entered the intersection, the vehicles collided. Schlossberg got a bump on the head, but refused medical attention, police said. Schlossberg received an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Wasserman Way

Police report a two-car crash on eastbound Wasserman Way, near the Interstate 84 ramps, about 1:15 pm November 9.

Motorist Nicole Bramesco, 36, of 1 Great Ring Road, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid eastbound, slowed down as she approached a traffic signal, which was turning red, and was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Mariel Brown, 17, of 19 Settlers Lane, who was driving a 1993 Ford escort station wagon, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Brown an infraction ticket on a charge of following too closely.

Highway Collision

Motorist Carla Decarvalho, 23, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Dodge sedan eastbound on Interstate 84 near Exit 11 about 7 pm November 9, lost control of the auto and collided with eastbound motorist Igor Sokolik, 57, of East Boston, who was driving a 1993 Toyota Camry, state police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Decarvalho to Danbury Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released. Charges are pending in the case.

VW Strikes Rail

Motorist Anna Wroblewska, 24, of Bristol was driving a 1996 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on Interstate 84 near Exit 10 about 12:20 pm November 9, when she lost control of the auto and struck metal guardrailing off the right side of the highway, state police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Wroblewska to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a leg injury. The case is under investigation.

I-84 Accident

Osvaldo Oliveira, 49, of Danbury, was driving a 1990 Nissan Sentra westbound on Interstate 84 about 4:15 pm November 9, when Oliveira slowed for traffic and was struck from behind by a westbound 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Tammy Haydu, 22, of Seymour, state police said. There were no injuries. State police warned Haydu for following too closely.

Flying Wood

Motorist Ivan Rubel, 47, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., was driving a 1998 Nissan Altima westbound on Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, on November 7, which kicked up a piece of wood that then hit a 2001 Ford Taurus driven by Cori Lambert, 44, of Patterson, N.Y., state police said. There were no injuries or enforcement actions.

I-84 DUI

State police said that while on patrol with a laser speed checker, they detected motorist Raul Aguais, 22, of Danbury driving 79 miles per hour in a 65-mph zone, near Exit 11 of eastbound Interstate 84 about 8 am November 11.

After being stopped, state police charged him with driving under the influence, speeding, and failure to have a driver’s license.

State police held Aguais for a November 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Flagpole Accident

Police report a two-car accident at the Main Street flagpole about 5:30 pm November 6.

Motorist Ghazala Sameey, 35, of Milford was driving a 1992 Toyota Camry southbound on Main Street, and was passing on the right some stopped southbound vehicles, which were waiting to turn left onto Church Hill Road, police said.

Motorist Herman Kirk, 70, of Ansonia was driving a 1999 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on Church Hill Road, and then proceeded across Main Street into the path of the Toyota, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Sameey for passing on the right.
