WestConn’s Commencement

DANBURY — In keeping with Western Connecticut State University’s yearlong centennial celebration, this year’s graduation on Sunday, May 18, will highlight the university’s rich 100-year commitment to education.

More than 800 graduates are expected to participate in the 10:30 am commencement ceremony on the practice field at the university’s Westside campus on Mill Plain Rd. This year’s commencement address will be delivered by professor emeritus Herbert Janick, who chronicled the university’s first 100 years in his book, A People’s University: The Centennial History of Western Connecticut State University. Dr Janick will also receive the President’s Medal at the ceremony. He retired from the university in 1997 after 28 years of teaching.

“This year has allowed us to focus on what we do best — teaching and learning,” said WestConn President James R. Roach. “The graduation of our centennial class gives us even more reason to celebrate our history and the university’s accomplishments.”
