WestConn's Commencement
WestConnâs Commencement
DANBURY â In keeping with Western Connecticut State Universityâs yearlong centennial celebration, this yearâs graduation on Sunday, May 18, will highlight the universityâs rich 100-year commitment to education.
More than 800 graduates are expected to participate in the 10:30 am commencement ceremony on the practice field at the universityâs Westside campus on Mill Plain Rd. This yearâs commencement address will be delivered by professor emeritus Herbert Janick, who chronicled the universityâs first 100 years in his book, A Peopleâs University: The Centennial History of Western Connecticut State University. Dr Janick will also receive the Presidentâs Medal at the ceremony. He retired from the university in 1997 after 28 years of teaching.
âThis year has allowed us to focus on what we do best â teaching and learning,â said WestConn President James R. Roach. âThe graduation of our centennial class gives us even more reason to celebrate our history and the universityâs accomplishments.â
