The Library's Filter-Free Internet Policy
The Libraryâs Filter-Free
Internet Policy
To the Editor:
When reading that the Newtown public library decided to ignore a Supreme Court ruling regarding the use of Internet filters on public computers for the protection of children, I was wondering:
Do they get too much of our tax money that they can forego federal funds?
Do they really care about the safety of our children? They do not want to filter pornographic or obscene material for their youngest patrons.
How can parents check what their children view when the children often use the computers without their parents standing next to them? At least, when Iâm there, I only see parents with very small children.
Pornography is very rampant on the Internet. I myself decided to cancel an Internet service since my email was inundated with pornographic email. No idea how they got my address.
I certainly do not appreciate this policy of the C.H. Booth Library and hope parents will decide to voice their opinion for the protection of their children.
Sincerely,
Helga Roegele
