Ready To Forgive
Ready To Forgive
To the Editor:
It has been an honor to represent the people of Newtown for the past two years as a member of the Legislative Council. I am extremely grateful to the many voters who came out to support me and now that a week has passed since Election Day, I am ready to forgive the other nine voters who stayed home.
I take my hat off to everyone who put their name on a ballot this election season, and I congratulate those who have won. Elections are about choice, and this year, there was plenty to choose from.Â
I am especially pleased that a number of newcomers have won election, including Carol Walsh who won a seat on the Board of Finance. Clearly, much credit for the strong Republican win goes to our first selectman. Clearly, Pat was an effective town manager even before the back-to-back storms came through Newtown. With the stormy wind at her back leading up to Election Day, she proved that as the saying goes, a rising tide lifts all boats. I have rationalized that it wasnât an IPN or a Democratic loss. It was clearly a big Republican win.
I look forward to remaining engaged with our town government alongside many other taxpayers as we help our elected leaders move Newtown forward. As they head into the new term, Pat, Will, Jim and every newly elected and reelected official have my full support and that of the Independent Party. To my wife, Robin, and our children Hannah and Quinn, thank you for everything. Iâm sure you suffered in my absence. But not to worry, Iâll find something else to do on Wednesday nights.
