SHOP Planning Sixth Annual ‘Rocking The Hook’ Concert
The Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) will hold “Rocking the Hook” Celebrate Sandy Hook, its sixth annual free outdoor concert on Sunday, May 19, from noon to 7 pm, on the Village Green, at 5 Glen Road in Sandy Hook (behind Village Perk Cafe). The event will go on rain or shine.
SHOP Event Coordinator Maribeth Hemingway stated “we are all really excited about this year’s lineup and look forward to a day of Rock & Roll in the village.”
Cheap Thrill is an energetic group that plays favorites from the 1960s to the 1990s, covering songs by Jimi Hendrix, KISS, Stone Temple Pilots, The Ramones, The Beatles, and more. Two of the primary band members include Dave Fischang on lead guitar and lead vocals and Chris Spalvieri on bass and lead vocals. The band regularly plays area venues as well as private parties and events.
The Traveling Danburys is an acoustic duo who performs classic rock covers by the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, and others. They play crowd-pleasing songs that everybody knows and can sing and dance along with. The guys hail from New Milford and perform regularly at local clubs, restaurants, even backyard parties.
Unclaimed Baggage rounds out this year’s list of performers. They are four friends, all residents of Newtown: Andy Spencer and Dennis Stratford work for the Newtown schools and Charlie Nostrand’s and Ron Dievert’s wives worked in the schools for many years. They perform folk rock, country, and a smattering of bluegrass.
Peppered among sets by those bands will be a special performance by the Jockey Hollow Singers.
Foundry Kitchen & Tavern will be grilling and selling burgers, sausages, and even vegan burgers that concertgoers can purchase, along with a drink special. Attendees can order take out, dine at one of the nearby restaurants, then pull up a chair by the riverside to enjoy the music.
Coolers and picnic baskets will be permitted.
Limited parking is available near the stage, but patrons can park along local streets, and at Newtown United Methodist Church at 92 Church Hill Road. Sidewalks and crosswalks will provide safe passage to the concert grounds.
