American Youth Football/Cheerleading Signups

Newtown American Youth Football and Cheerleading will be holding the 2007 season registrations on Saturday, April 28, 8 am to 12 noon at the Newtown High School cafeteria. The program is for children entering second grade through eighth grade. All teams will be grade specific - i.e., eighth, seventh, sixth, fifth, fourth, and second-third. All  football registrants must be in attendance for partial equipment fitting. All new players MUST bring a copy of their birth certificate to be eligible. The fees are $250 for football and  $155  for cheerleading (plus incremental equipment as needed). Nighthawk Sports Camps Taking Registrations

The Nighthawk Sports Camps will opens its fifth season in the summer of 2007. Fun, safe instruction coupled with enthusiastic attention to each child’s specific needs is the focus of the camp. Last year, coach Dreger and coach Carey – certified physical education instructors – introduced Wacky Waterday. All area children ages 6 to 12 are welcome. Raccoon 5K

The Raccoon 5K, Fun Run & Walk will be held Saturday, May 26, at Redding Elementary School. The 5K and Fun Run will start at 8:45 am while the kids (12 and under) one-mile fun run will start at 8 am. Fees are $20 for the 5K ($25 after May 18) and $10 for the one-mile fun run ($15 after May 18). Maximum is $50 per family. There will be t-shirts for all pre-registered participants and t-shirts for race day registrants as supplies last.Running shoes will be presented to first male and female runners, courtesy of KILOMETERS. Dave And Greg’s Tennis

Dave and Greg’s Tennis will be providing several new tennis options this summer. There will be two sessions of match play, a program option geared to juniors aged 9 to 11 and 12 through 16 who are able to get their serve in consistently. Juniors will be given strategy tips from a certified adult instructor while playing matches. Additionally, there will be two afternoon camps this summer and two morning camps. As in previous years, Dave and Greg’s Tennis will offer clinics for seven weeks (three, two-week long sessions and a one-week long session) starting June 25. This includes lessons for tiny tots (ages 4-7), beginners (grades 2-4), beginners (grades 5-10), and intermediate/advanced players (grades 5-10). Also new this year are adult clinics starting June 25 at Newtown High School. There will be two, four-week sessions for adult beginner and intermediate levels. Charity Bowling Tournament

The Greater Danbury USCA Association will be sponsoring a charity bowling tournament on Saturday, April 28, at Lore’s Lanes on Danbury Road in New Milford. The “Bowl For The Cure” Tournament will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The tournament is open to all bowlers - entry fee is $20 and bowlers are encouraged to solicit donations. Registration will be at 11 am with bowling to begin at 12 noon (no walk-ins after 11:30 am). Bowling will consist of three games - first game will be standard format; second game will be auto-strike in third, sixth and ninth frames; third game will be 9-pin, no tap. Namath/Dockery Football Camp

The Joe Namath/John Dockery Football Camp will open its 36th season July 8 through July 13 at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. This is a contact and non-contact program for boys ages 8 to 18.
