Sandy Hook School Art Show A Showcase For Student Talent
Students were happy to return to school the evening of May 15, when Sandy Hook Elementary School hosted its annual art show.
Family, friends, and community members were invited to attend the event to see student artwork created throughout the school year adorning the walls of the school.
Art teachers Jean Griffin Walter and Kim Hossler received many hugs near the school’s main entrance as students entered the event with family members.
Colorful creations were hung along the main hallways, and sculptures were tucked on display in alcoves. Students pointed out their own works or that of their friends as they passed different displays, like the self-portraits by first graders or the color wheel umbrellas by second graders.
Ms Hossler said some of the art was inspired by the author and illustrator Jennifer Thermes’s work.
“It’s great to see the culmination of the year of work and have the kids come in and show it off,” said Ms Walter, between greeting families.
Middle Gate Elementary School hosted its art show on April 25, and Hawley Elementary School’s art show is rescheduled for June 5, at the school, from 5:30 to 7 pm.
