Opera, Arts Commission Boost Town Hall
Once the final curtain closed on a special performance at the Edmond Town Hall December 13, proceeds bolstered the buildingâs improvement projects by nearly $1,000. Newtown Cultural Arts Commission members brought to town the Western Connecticut State University Opera production Amahl and the Night Visitors with the intention of boosting funds needed to upgrade the theater, which most recently has new seats and carpeting.
The show was âdelightfulâ said town clerk and arts commission member Debbie Aurelia. Part of the commissionâs efforts aim to âbring culture and events to town,â she said. The English opera was something new. âI donât think weâve ever had one.â Accompanying the performance was a 20-piece orchestra set in the pit below the stage.
Ms Aurelia hopes to present a check at an upcoming Board of Managers meeting.
As stated on the town website, Newtown0Ct.Gov, âThe purpose of the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission shall be to stimulate, facilitate, coordinate and cooperate with existing organizations for the development of the arts. It shall serve as an information center and focal point in the community for activities in the arts.â
