Pam Faganâs classroom at Middle Gate School had special decorations up for Tuesday, February 10, to mark the 13 annual all school math day celebrating the 100th day of school for the school year.
Ms Fagan, the math and science specialist at the school, started celebrating the 100th day of school with students 23 years ago when she was a kindergarten teacher at the school, she said Tuesday. For the past 13 years of being the math and science specialist, the event has been a schoolwide celebration of the number 100.
âEvery single lesson has to revolve around the number 100 today,â said Ms Fagan.
Every student in the school created a project that had to have 100 items in it. One project had 100 pencils collected together, one had 100 images of a studentâs dog, and one had a list of 100 reasons why a student did not do his or her homework. Each of these projects filled Ms Faganâs room as decorations for the 100th day of school celebration.
In the individual classrooms, teachers also spent the day at the school having their students do specific projects. Classes also went to different rooms, like the Art Room, to do other projects to honor the number 100.
In the music room with music teacher Tina Jones students were given a challenge; draw 100 music notes within 100 seconds. After trying the challenge, students sang along and danced with a song about 100 days of school.
âItâs out of the ordinary,â said Ms Fagan, adding that is what makes the day special for the students.
Other things students had to do around the school included a writing assignment about what life will be like in 100 years, creating a boat out of tin foil that could float in water with 100 pennies in it, making a list of books that could be purchased for a total of $100, and reading a poem about the number 100 that also had exactly 100 words in it.
âItâs really very special,â Ms Fagan said about the day.
