Volunteers Offered Free Road Race Entries
Organizers of the Newtown Road Race recently received great news: With the economy under stress and everyone feeling the pinch, an anonymous Newtown resident has offered to pay the race registration fees for the first 100 people who volunteer for a Newtown Youth and Family Services (NYFS) event.Â
In other words, 100 people can earn a free race entry by pitching in to help others.
The first NYFS event where this is eligible will be Independent Living Day on Saturday, April 25, from 8 am to 3:30 pm.Â
Jessi Zeigler is coordinating the event and can be contacted by phone at 270-4335. If Independent Living Day attracts less than 100 volunteers or if people volunteer but are not interested in running the race, the offer will be extended to a future NYFS event, said Ms Zeigler.
âThis is terrific news,â commented Steve Meeker from the Newtown Road Race, âthis pledge gives us the chance to help people in a pinch, promotes volunteerism and adds a new aspect to whatâs grown to become a pretty big 5K event.âÂ
The Newtown Road Race takes place on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend; this yearâs race, therefore, will be on September 5. Details can be found at www.NewtownRoadRace.com.
