Hollandia Nursery and its adjacent Gift, Garden and Patio store are presenting their 18th annual Spring Garden Expo March 19â28, in which the centers offer free seminars and talks to customers.
âOur goal is to provide information to help you enhance your gardens year round,â according to Hollandiaâs Ken Kolwicz.
Seminars will be held at both the Nursery at 103 Old Hawleyville Road, and at the Gift, Garden and Patio shop at 95 Stony Hill Road (Route 6), in Bethel. Weekday seminars, hosted between 10 and 11 am, will include:
Monday â Spring color with trees and shrubs
Tuesday â Herb Gardening Workshop
Wednesday â Orchids from A-Z with Judy Becker
Thursday â Container Gardening: create endless summer color with containers
Friday â Landscape Dos and Donâts
Anyone interested in attending any or all of these seminars is encouraged to call 203-743-0267 for reservations, as limiting seating is available
âRegister early, discussions fill up quickly,â Mr Kolwicz said. âAnd donât be late â there will be no admittance after the scheduled start time.â
Additional workshops will be held hourly throughout the two weekends of the Spring Garden Expo. Among the seminars March 20 is âFruits of Your Labor.â Enjoy the fruits of your labor by learning to prune, net and plant fruit trees and berry producing plants.
And on March 21, one workshop will focus specifically on âSpring Bulbs for Summer Blooms.â Discover the surprises you are in for when you plant bulbs in spring.
Continuing on March 27, workshops include âHummingbirds, Birds & Butterflies, Oh My!â Create a habitat for these beauties by planting annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs.
And on March 28, learn about âSelf-Watering Containersâ; simplify your life with container gardens that water themselves, with Lorraine Ballato. Or, âNow Weâre Cookinâ With Herbs!â; make the most of your meals with helpful herb growing tips led by Pam Buchler from Aquarian Catering.
