Casino Night A Success
Casino Night A Success
To the Editor:
Casino Night has come and gone and there were many smiles that evening. Over 100 people attended and enjoyed the roulette, dice, wheel of fortune, and black jack tables. The tables were ably manned by three professionals associated with Casino Productions, by local dignitaries such as Barbara Kasberian, Jay Marple, Lydon Thomas, and Janet and Rich Woycik, as well as by members of the Newtown Lions Club. Excellent food in abundance was provided by the Fireside and there were many wonderful prizes.
There are many people to thank for the success of the evening. Tammy Marks, my co-chairman of the Treadwell Park Committee, worked tirelessly with Debbie McGrath gathering raffle items for the silent and live auctions. Bill Denlinger, the chairman of the event, had many good ideas and solicited some excellent gifts. Thanks also go to the Newtown Lions Club. About 75 percent of the Lions Club members either gathered gifts, worked on the committee, ran the games, or did all three. I am proud of them.
I also wish to thank the individuals who contributed such good gifts for the auctions. Sincere appreciation goes to Lions Jim Berliner, Charlie Fadus, Don Ferris, Gordon Mounts, Joe Grasso, Tony Ratzing, Dr Joseph Young, and Ed Newton for their substantial donations. Thanks also goes to Maureen McLachlan, Dr Steve Landon, Joe Nameth, Rudy Szghetti, Dr Lionel Brown, Bruce Degan, Steven Kellogg, Nancy Marculilli, Bill Lavery, Chris Spiro, Stacey Margules Gallagher, Les Harrington, and Justine Aspinwall for the wonderful and varied contributions you made to the auctions.
Merchants of Newtown also responded very generously to Casino Night. Among those who contributed were the Newtown Package Store, Subway, Nutmeg Cleaners, Union Savings Bank, Ricciâs, Andreaâs Bake Shop, Sandy Hook Babershop, the Inn at Newtown, Newtown Drug Center, Berkshire Motors, World Wine and Spirits, Robertoâs Haircut, Newtown Car Care, Von OS Framing, Newtown Savings Bank, Emilyâs, Taunton Wine and Liquor, Koening Framing, Georgeâs Restaurant, Charter Communication, The Magic Garden, Keystone Auto Industries, Leahyâs Oil, Long Wharf Theatre, Sheraton of Waterbury, Darwoods Restaurant, Elizabethâs Steak and Seafood Restaurant, The Newtown Bee and Emerald City Farm. All of the people and merchants mentioned above were solicited by the Newtown Lions Club. Items collected by the Treadwell Park Committee will be listed separately in a letter by Tammy Marks.
So, thanks again all you people who contributed so generously to Casino Night with your time, money, and talent. And thanks also to all the good people who came to our festive night. The construction of Treadwell Playground is that much closer to becoming a reality thanks to you.
Sincerely,
Gordon M. Williams, president Newtown Lions
