Police said that two pedestrians were injured in a motor vehicle accident about 6:17 pm on December 11 at the flagpole intersection of Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street.

Police said motorist Arthur M. Huffman, 47, of Waterbury was driving a 2013 Kia Forte sedan southward on Main Street and then attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road, when the sedan collided with pedestrians Sandra Tannone, 64, of Newtown, and Patrick Tannone, 64, of New Milford, both of whom were walking southward in a crosswalk on the eastbound side of Church Hill Road.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported both pedestrians to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters responded to the accident.

Police said that on December 19, they issued Huffman an infraction ticket, lodging two counts of failure to grant the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Newtown police have charged a Waterbury man with two infractions after he struck two pedestrians with his vehicle on the evening of December 11. A man and woman who were in the crosswalk at the top of Church Hill Road were both injured when Arthur Huffman turned from Main Street toward Church Hill and hit the pair with his vehicle
